Whatsoever things are HONORABLE
The word translated honorable or honest in most translations, is SEMNOS in Greek. It is pronounced sem-NOSS. Strong’s G4586 lists the biblical usage of SEMNOS as meaning venerable, honorable, serious, grave, dignified.
The contemporary definition of honorable:
definition: bringing or worthy of honor.
synonyms: morally correct · honest · moral · ethical · principled · righteous · full of integrity · respected · respectable · venerable · virtuous · good · upstanding · upright · worthy · noble · fair · just · truthful · trustworthy · law-abiding · incorruptible · reliable · reputable · faithful · illustrious · distinguished · great · admirable · glorious · prestigious · esteemed
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
We have been adopted into the family of God. Bought with the price of Yeshua’s blood. Let’s think properly so we act properly and bring honor to His name and His family.
Honorable Thinking Brings Honorable Speech
Yeshua tells us that what we think about is what we will speak.
Luke 6:45 The good person out of the good treasury of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasury produces evil, for his mouth speaks from what fills his heart.
In the verse above, good also means honorable and heart means your thoughts. So if we are filling up our minds and thoughts on honorable things and dwelling on those good, honest, worthy things, that is what will spill over into and out of our mouths.
Think about what is honorable
What are some honorable things you can think about? What are some things you can purge from your mind that aren’t so honorable?
Scripture dealing with Honor

1 Peter 2:12 (BSB) Conduct yourselves with such honor among the Gentiles that, though they slander you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us.
2 Corinthians 8:21 (ESV) For we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord’s sight but also in the sight of man.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me today to fill my thoughts with things that bring honor to You and to the body of Messiah. Remind me when tempted to think negatively, to replace that thought with something honorable, good, and worthy of Your grace.
Amen
