Verse of the Week:
Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life. Remove perverse speech from your mouth; keep devious talk far from your lips.
Proverbs 4:23-24
How do you guard your heart? By taking care what you let enter into it.
In the second half of Matthew 12:34, Yeshua says “… for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”
What you let in your heart through your Eye Gate and your Ear Gate will exit through your Mouth Gate. This is why Solomon warned us to guard our hearts with all vigilance.
If we are monitoring what comes into our minds via what we listen to, read, and watch; then we are less likely to be ashamed by what comes out of our mouths.
You want to be a blessing to others and have rivers of living water flowing from you. Guard your gates. Read the Word. Meditate on it day and night.
Live it out this week
I challenge you this week to read the entire chapter of Proverbs 4. Also read Matthew 12:34-37. Think about what you consume on a regular basis. Is it edifying to you and others? What changes can you make to what is coming into and out of your gates?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess that what I let into my heart is not always pleasing to You and as a result neither is what comes out of my mouth. Show me those things I needs to move away from and the things that please You that I need to pursue so that I can be a blessing to You and those around me. Amen.
