Verse of the week:
Lord, in the morning you hear my voice. In the morning I lay out my requests in front of you, and I watch for your answer.
Psalm 5:3 EHV
We generally do what we want to do. Even during busy times, we will find a way to do what we have our heart set on doing. When we are in a new relationship, we want to be with that person or talk to them all the time. Prayer is talking with God.
In this quote from Martin Luther, he is alluding to the same thing our verse is about. We need to spend time with the One who cares the most about us. The One who is for us. The One who can help us like no other. The One who loves us. He wants to be first in our lives. The first thing He told Israel at Mount Sinai was to put Him first and have nothing else before, ahead, in place of Him.
“I have so many things to do today, I dare not ignore my time with God.”
~ Martin Luther
We can’t let things get in the way and crowd out our time with our Heavenly Father. We can’t say “I’m too busy to pray now” and expect to have much of a relationship with Him. That would be putting things, tasks, people before him, creating idols of those things.
Live it out this week
If you don’t already have this “habit,” get up a little earlier and start your day with prayer and bible reading. Make a list of things you want to talk to the Father about. Download a bible app on your device and start a reading plan. Pray for others, pray about things you are worrying about and decisions you are faced with. He is your Father and he wants you to bring your cares to him.
Sing and consider the words of the refrain from this old hymn – Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Prayer
Heavenly Father help me to be quick to always turn to You first in prayer. Help me when I get distracted with the things of life to stop and pray. Show me areas of my life that I need to turn from or modify involvement with to keep my relationship with You as the premier relationship in my life. In Yeshua’s/Jesus’ name, Amen.
