VOW: Shine On

We live in a time where letting your light shine on yourself has become an art form. Selfies, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, etc., etc. You get the idea. So many people today get their self-esteem from how many people like their selfies and social media representations of themselves. Then there is the uniquely 21st century “humblebrag” (an oxymoron if ever there was one) to surreptitiously shine the light on yourself. (Insert eye roll here!)

C. S. Lewis understood that this is not what Jesus meant when He taught His disciples to let our good works be the light that shines upon our Father in heaven—who gives us the grace and ability to accomplish those good works.

Be the light that shines on Yehovah—not on yourself.

Live it out this week

Look for ways to shine the light on God and on others. Always give glory to God for the things that He accomplishes through you.

Prayer

Father, teach us to always shine the light on You and on Christ as we live our lives for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
