VOW: Pray First, Worry Not

Verse of the Week:

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 CSB

“Pray, and let God worry.”

~ MARTIN LUTHER

We sometimes find it difficult to not worry about things. We are prone to let the cares of this world creep into our minds and cause us to lose our peace.

Paul and Martin Luther remind us to pray – bring your needs to God with thanksgiving. Let Him handle it, let His peace encompass you and guard your heart and mind. You don’t need to worry.

Yeshua reminds us that worrying is a useless endeavor in Luke 12:25. “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?” It’s a rhetorical question. The answer is none of us. On the other hand, worrying could shorten your life. And at the very least, cause you to not be able to enjoy and be grateful for the blessings you do have.

We have a lot of things we can worry about in this life these days if we have not determined to trust our Heavenly Father. Put your trust in Him that He will take care of you. The Hebrew word for trust is hasa (pronounced khaw saw) and it means to flee to for protection, to confide in, have hope.

When you were a child and some bully or scary dog approached, you would run to your mon or dad and hide behind their legs and let them fight for you. Well, your Heavenly Father wants you to do the same thing with Him. Hide behind Him, hide under His wings.

Remember that when you trust in Him, It may not turn out the way you think it should, or want it to, but you need to TRUST Him and let Him be in the driver’s seat, and resist the temptation to be a backseat driver. He knows where you are going, you don’t.

Live it out this week:

This week, practice turning your worries and problems over to your Heavenly Father, and then TRUSTING Him to take care of it. He will either “fix” the problem or help you deal with it. Either way you learn and grow in Him.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, help me not to pick up my burdens again after I have prayed them over to You. In Yeshua’s name. Amen.
