This Advent Calendar, is divided into three sections to reflect the prophecies concerning the birth of our Savior into the world, the celebration of Hanukkah (the Festival of Lights) and Jesus’ role as the light of the world, and the historical record of His entrance into the world. May you be blessed during this Advent season.
The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
But thou, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He come forth unto Me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
“Behold, the days come,” saith the LORD, “that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is His name whereby He shall be called, The LORD our Righteousness.“
“I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto Me, Thou art My Son; this day have I begotten Thee.”
…”Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” …”Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Yeshua (Jesus).”
Luke 1:28b, 30b-31
“He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the House of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”
“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Yeshua (Yehovah is salvation), for yoshia (He will save) His people from their sins.”
December 11th through the 18th is the Jewish Festival of Lights (Hanukkah). The following verses are chosen to be reflective of this season and that Yeshua is the true Light of the world.
Every good and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you.
“I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.“
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman…
And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them…
And the angel said to them, “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.”
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”
“And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
…Behold, there came wise men from the East to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
