Path to Peace

It is early December, 2021, and we find ourselves in the early days of the Advent Season. Christmas lights are twinkling in every neighborhood. Christmas shoppers are braving crowds to find just the right gifts for everyone on their lists, or they are frantically shopping online and hoping the supply chain won’t be the Grinch! Christmas music is playing on every radio and in every store. Christmas trees are being decorated. Cookies are being baked. Christmas movies are being watched. Children are excitedly waiting to see if Santa delivers the goods.

‘Tis the season of “Peace on earth, good will toward men.”

But if we are honest, given the current chaotic state of affairs on this earthly plane, it doesn’t look much like peace or good will is anywhere to be found.

Yet consider the words of C.S. Lewis—

“Life with God is not immunity from difficulties, but peace in difficulties.”
C.S. Lewis

And take comfort in the words of our Savior—

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
John 14:27 NKJV

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 NKJV

When we go through life’s inevitable trials and tribulations, knowing we belong to the One who overcame the world brings a special kind of peace—unlike anything the world can give. So when you find yourself troubled by the seeming chaos of the world and even just the hustle and bustle of our hurried lives, remember that Peace came into the world 2,000 years ago in the form of the babe in the manger that we celebrate each Christmas.

When peace eludes you, run to the Prince of Peace. Do you know Him?

Prayer

Thank You, Jesus, Prince of Peace, for giving us perfect peace. May those who do not know this peace come to You for Your free gift this Christmas. In Your precious name, Amen.
